The Moberly girls' historic soccer season came to an end Saturday afternoon in Harrisonville. The host Lady Wildcats beat the Lady Spartans 2-0 in the Class 2 quarterfinals.
Moberly put the pressure on Harrisonville's defense throughout most of the first half, and the early part of the second, but couldn't put the ball in the net. The momentum turned the home team's way for good in the final ten minutes, thanks to a gutsy effort from its top scorer.
Forward Anna Holden was battling a left leg injury that had already cost her more than half the season. She played in the first few minutes of the game, but had to come out because of the pain. She returned to the action late in the second half, and was the key to both goals. Her pressure on the Moberly defense set up the corner kick that resulted in Harrisonville's first goal with 9:38 left, then knocked one in herself about two minutes later...
