A registered sex offender suspected of shooting a woman Friday morning near Bethel has apparently killed himself.
Shelby County Sheriff Dennis Perrigo says 41-year-old Patrick McIntire of Illinois was wanted for Friday's shooting of a former girlfriend north of Bethel, on Highway 15. The woman remains hospitalized in Macon. McIntire was charged Friday with first degree domestic assault, felonious restraint and armed criminal action.
Sheriff Perrigo has issued a news release, saying that McIntire's vehicle was found Sunday afternoon at about 2:30 in a wooded lot off of County Road 179. Deputies say McIntire's body was found outside his Ford Explorer, and that he died died from a self-inflicted gun shot wound. Shelby County Sheriff's deputies and the Missouri Highway Patrol had been searching for McIntire and his Explorer since Friday's incident.
McIntire was listed on the Illinois Sex Offender Registry.
