The Columbia school board approved more than $400,000 in additional cuts to its 2010-2011 budget, at its meeting Monday night. All told, the board has trimmed about $5,600,000 for next school year. The latest round of reductions includes limiting services and staff for Parents as Teachers, and changing sixth and seventh grade athletics to intramural activities, with games only between district schools.

The $5,600,000 in budget reductions includes slashing four million dollars worth of personnel. Doctor Boren says the board will try not to fire anyone, hoping to merely not replace those that leave the district by choice.
