Former Westran track standout Joe Smith is continuing his success at the college level for Missouri S & T in Rolla. Smith, in his freshman year, won first place recently in the triple jump at the Great Lakes Conference championships, with a leap of 46 feet two inches.
Smith said he knew it was going to be a good effort...........

That leap was also a personal best for Smith.
He says he hopes to continue to improve his distance in the upcoming outdoor track season.........

While at Westran, Smith won the state championship in the triple jump during his senior year last spring.
Smith said he remembers how his jumping career began back in Huntsville........

Smith said his focus for the future will be on making the qualifying mark in the triple jump that would allow him to get into the national meet.
