CMU LOSES TO LINDENWOOD

The Central Methodist University Runnin' Eagles lost a semi-final Heart of America Athletic Conference post-season tournament game to Lindenwood University Friday night at Puckett Field House in Fayette, 57-51. Central held a seven point lead at halftime, 29-22, thanks to ten points from junior Lucas Dahl and five assists from senior Nic Dykman. The first half had a few lead changes, and it seemed the Eagles fast paced attack was going to be more than the larger and slower Lions could handle. Lindenwood regrouped at halftime, and came out hot in the second half with a six point run, then started dominating the boards. The Eagles fell behind then started to battle back, but the normally hot shooting team shot only 58% from the free throw line, and they also only hit four of fifteen from beyond the arc. Lindenwood finished 45% from the floor and 81% from the charity stripe, lead by 6'11" Brett Thompson with 20 points and 10 rebounds, and Richard Rose chipped in 18, including three of four from three point range. The Eagles only hit 40% overall, led by Tyler Bredehoeft with 11 and Lucas Dahl's 10 points.
Lindenwood will play William Jewell Monday for the HAAC tournament title, then wait for an at large bid to the NAIA national tournament. Central Methodist has already secured a spot in the national tournament as the HAAC regular season champs. The NAIA national tournament is March 17-23 at Municipal Auditorium in Kansas City.
