MODOT SAFE AND SOUND

The Missouri Department of Transportation's Safe & Sound Bridge Improvement Program is about to wrap up, two years ahead of schedule. MoDot will dedicate the 802nd, and final structure, with a ribbon-cutting ceremony at the Route 11 Bridge over the BNSF Railroad in Chariton County. Northwest Regional Field Engineer Troy Flagle says the program was a two-pronged approach to bridge improvement in the state.

Flagle says that, although the program is now complete, there are still more bridges in Missouri that need work. He says inspection and repair of those bridges will still continue, but at a reduced rate.

The ribbon-cutting ceremony will be held Thursday, November 8th at 2 PM. This is the 190th bridge upgrade for Northwest Missouri, the most of any region in the state. All 20 counties had bridges improved. The total cost of the entire Safe & Sound improvement program was 685-million dollars.
