The check is in the mail from the federal government. Adair County has received a federal historic preservation grant of $76,800 for improvements to the county courthouse. Adair County Commissioner Mark Thompson tells GoodRadio they had to jump through some hoops to receive these funds.
Thompson says county officials are in the middle of the contractor bidding process now. The Adair County courthouse is on the National Registry of Historic Place and has been around since the late 19th century. Thompson knows such a unique place needs worked on to keep it structually sound for years to come.
Thompson is hopefully that the bidding process for contracts will wind down in the next couple of months and that the restoration of the Adair County Courthouse will be completed sometime next year.
