CASSIDY KING PRELIMINARY HEARING DELAYED

A preliminary hearing has been delayed for a Moberly woman accused of killing her newborn baby last year.

26-year-old Cassidy King is charged with second degree murder for the death of her newborn baby, identified in court papers as "B.K." King is accused of throwing his body into a pond near Higbee. King had been scheduled to appear in Randolph County Circuit Court next Monday for a preliminary hearing, but the prosecution and defense have agreed to delay it. County Prosecutor Mike Fusselman tells GoodRadio supplemental reports are forthcoming from the Medical Examiner's office and defendant's expert, which will have critical information for the court to consider on the cause of death. The preliminary hearing will determine whether King will be bound over for arraignment.

Cassidy King has pleaded not guilty. Prosecutor Fusselman says the murder happened between April 15 and May 8, 2011. The felony complaint alleges that King "knowingly caused the death of B.K. by injuring him and/or throwing him into a pond in a weighted dufflebag." The pond is in the 1600 block of Route H near Higbee.

The Missouri Department of Corrections' website indicates King remains incarcerated at the female prison in Chillicothe. The courts revoked her probation for stealing anhydrous ammonia.
