The Moberly Area Community College Board of Trustees has approved a tobacco-free policy. The Board's vote Monday night at Komar Hall was unanimous, and it means all MACC campus sites will be tobacco-free effective August 1.
Moberly Area Community College joins more than 400 colleges and universities nationwide that have enacted tobacco-free policies. The Board approved the proposal from MACC President Dr. Evelyn Jorgenson, who says the policy is in response to second-hand smoke exposure and a desire to ensure clean air for all who come to the college:

The policy takes effect in August. President Jorgenson says it's the school's intent to educate students and employees about the policy, then seek their compliance. During the policy's first year, voluntary compliance will be emphasized. Designated staff at each campus will enforce the policy, which also applies to campus visitors. President Jorgenson confirms Greyhound fans will no longer be allowed to smoke outside Fitzsimmons-John Arena.
The Board also approved the hiring of Greyhound assistent men's basketball coaches Andre Bell and Eric McCrary Monday night. The MACC Board also has scheduled a tax levy hearing for August 27 at 5:40 p.m. in the main building's Blue Room. Dr. Jorgenson says the college is looking at a tax levy of about 32 cents.
