The USDA Farm Service Agency announced Wednesday afternoon expedited assistance for farmers and other producers facing losses due to the drought.
Under a new, streamlined program, Secretary Tom Vilsack designated 1,016 counties in the midwest for the assistance based on what's called the drought monitor.
