The Saline County Prosecutor's Office is expected to follow up on information concerning the discovery of a young child's body on the side of the Blackwater River west of Marshall.

Saline County Sheriff Wally George says the body was located about 2 o'clock Sunday morning on the river bank.

The search for the 18-month old child began about 11:30pm Saturday, when a missing female showed up at a Saline County house extremely disoriented, and told the resident that she remembered leaving her child on a creek bank.

After a search of the area involving about 40 volunteers, Sheriff George says the body was located, and the information will be turned over to the Prosecutor's Office.

Sheriff George says last Thursday morning a stolen pickup truck was found in a field, which prompted the search for the woman and her child.  Reports indicate the child died from exposure to the elements.

Sheriff George says the investigation is continuing.
