A registered sex offender who's now accused of molesting an eight-year-old relative in Moberly has been bound over for arraignment.
45-year-old Michael L. Burnett is charged with two counts of first degree child molestation and two counts of first degree statutory sodomy in Randolph County Circuit Court. The alleged incidents happened in February at Burnett's home in the 2700 block of Highway JJ in Moberly. The Sheriff Department's probable cause statement says the victim's mother walked in on an incident, and that the boy told her about the incidents the next day. Investigators say she told friends, and someone called Missouri's Child Abuse and Neglect Hotline. The statement quotes Burnett as denying the allegations in this case, saying the boy was "mad at him for the rules he has set."
Online court records indicate Burnett was convicted in 2006 of second degree statutory rape in southwest Missouri's Webster County, and served about five years in prison.
