JUDGE REJECTS BOND REQUEST FROM MOBERLY DRUG SUSPECTS

March preliminary hearings have been set for three people arrested in January's large drug bust in Moberly.

32-year-old Antonio Lamar Hayes of Moberly, 51-year-old Calvin Eugene Smith Sr. of Moberly and 21-year-old Donita Rashad Arthur of Columbia were arrested January 18. Randolph County Circuit Judge Cynthia Suter has scheduled March 9 preliminary hearings for the three. Those hearings will determine whether Hayes, Smith and Arthur will be bound over for arraignment. Judge Suter also rejected requests for a bond reduction from Hayes and Smith. Their bond remains set at $150,000.

Moberly Police say nine others were arrested during the roundup. Five of those nine have since been indicted by a federal grand jury in St. Louis and remain in federal custody. Moberly Police Commander Kevin Palmatory says the arrests stem from a two-and-a-half year undercover investigation.
