Rivals Palmyra and Monroe City split a doubleheader Friday night on KRES.
Monroe senior Brady Baker hit two free throws with two seconds left to give his team a 47-45 upset win in the boys game. Palmyra's Luke Powell launched a 60 foot heave at the buzzer that nearly went in for the win.
Monroe City jumped out to a 13-4 lead in the game, and never trailed. Palmyra was able to tie the game on several occasions in the second half but could never get over the hump...........

The game was the first Clarence Cannon Conference win for Monroe City in eight tries, and just its fourth victory overall against 19 losses. Coach Brock Edris was proud of his young team's effort..............
Grant O'Bryan led Monroe with 13 points.
Palmyra Coach Matt Thomas said his team wasn't prepared for its upset minded opponent.............
Blayne White had 16 points to pace Palmyra. They fell to 12-12 overall and 4-4 in the CCC.
The Palmyra girls survived a big run by Monroe City to pull out a 57-53 win in a matchup of two of the CCC's top teams. Palmyra led 35-23 late in the third quarter, before Monroe went on a 16-3 spurt to grab a one point lead in the final quarter.
Palmyra Coach Brian Wosman was happy his team was able to take a punch and bounce back for the big win.............
Monroe City Coach Bob Gilliam said his team gave the game away early...........
Kiette Mundy had 18 points for Monroe City, which fell to 17-7 overall and 6-2 in the conference.
Katee Hinkle and Alexis Losson led four Palmyra players in double figures with 13 points each. Palmyra is 16-6 overall, and at 8-0 is now in sole possession of first place in the league with two conference games left.
