CAUTHORN FILES BIPARTISAN BRICK BILL

Legislation that would require the Office of Administration to give preference for brick products produced in Missouri whenever bids are comparable has been filed by State Rep. John Cauthorn, R-Mexico. State law currently says that any ag product that's been processed in Missouri must be given preference by OA. Cauthorn's bill would extend that to brick:

The bill is designed to help Mid America Brick in Cauthorn's hometown. He says the company made brick in the last half of 2011 and shut down temporarily around Christmas. Cauthorn is hopeful sales will increase and that the plant will be operating again this spring. He notes Mexico is the only Missouri town with a plant that manufactures house brick. He says most of the competition is in Texas and southern states.

State Rep. Chris Kelly, D-Columbia, is co-sponsoring Cauthorn's bill, which is not currently on the House calendar.
