LAPLATA- Four trophies were handed out at the LaPlata Invitational Friday night on KRES. The Schuyler County boys claimed fifth place with a 56-52 victory over Atlanta. The game was close throughout. The Hornets led by four at the half, before a 22-15 third quarter advantage gave the Rams a 43-40 lead entering the fourth. Schuyler County Coach Jeremy Neville said his team then did what it had to in the final period to get the win...............

Brandon Wuebker led three Rams in double figures with 20 points. Schuyler County improved to 6-12 with the win.
Tagan Brookhart scored 15 points for Atlanta. The Hornets dropped to 4-14.
Madison took the boys seventh place crown with an 82-72 win over North Shelby. The Panthers trailed 33-29 late in the second quarter, before going on a 16-0 run to close out the half. Coach Jon Link said that stretch is when his team grabbed control of the contest.....................

Jacob Youse had 23 points for Madison, and Tylor Milner added 20. The Panthers are now 9-9 on the year.
North Shelby got 22 from Michael Orr in dropping to 7-11.
The Green City Lady Gophers beat Cairo 47-29 to win the girls fifth-place trophy. Green City led 10-7 at the end of the first quarter, and 21-20 at halftime. The second half was crucial, as the Lady Gophers outscored Cairo 26-9. Green City coach Wade Sorenson praises his team's effort:

Junior guard Cheyenne Heaton led Green City with 14, and sophomore center Alicia Albrecht added 11. Point guard Emily Sorenson scored eight, as did forward Maren Hatcher. The Lady Gophers improve to 11-9. Forward Kailee Geosling led Cairo with 13, and junior guard Caitlin Canote added ten points. The Lady Bearcats fall to 9-9, but they've lost six of their last seven.
In the girls seventh-place game, Canton beat the outmanned Atlanta Lady Hornets 58-51. Because of sophomore Samantha Reed's knee injury, Atlanta only dressed five players. The Lady Hornets led 15-7 at the end of the first quarter and trailed 25-20 at the half. Canton led 44-41 at the end of three. The five Atlanta players looked fatigued in the final quarter, and sophomore Ashton Ross played that final period with four fouls.
Senior star Katie Schuman led Canton with 21. Lady Tigers coach Lindsey Uhlmeyer says Schuman has scored 21, 27 and 20 in her last three games:
