A large shingle manufacturer is looking to locate a new factory in the midwest, and the City of Moberly is a finalist. Moberly Community Development Director Tom Sanders tells that Building Materials Corporation of America made a presentation to the Moberly Planning and Zoning Commission Monday evening.

The company, doing business as GAF, is shopping for a 400,000 square foot production facility that will employ up to 125 employees. The proposed location is a 147-acre tract of land south of the old Mamtek site on the north end of Moberly. Sanders says there are factors that made this site attractive to GAF.

Sanders says a decision is expected by the end of the year, and if Moberly is selected the facility would be in full production by midyear 2015. According to its company website, GAF is based in Wayne, New Jersey, and is the most fully integrated roofing manufacturer in the United States with more than 3,000 employees in 23 plants across the country
