LONG-TIME FRIEND: SPOONHOUR WAS "PERFECT"

The Saint Louis Post-Dispatch reports the family of Charlie Spoonhour will hold a private funeral service for the Hall of Fame coach. Spoonhour died Wednesday morning in North Carolina, where he was receiving treatment for a lung condition.

Jim Wyatt knew Coach Spoonhour from the time they were kids growing up together 65 years ago. Wyatt was Spoonhour's assistant coach at Burlington Community College, then succeeded him as head man when Spoonhour left for Southwest Missouri State. Wyatt followed his old friend into the NJCAA Hall of Fame in 1999, finishing with a 414-137 record.

Wyatt says his junior college success probably wouldn't have happened without the help of his old friend...
